A good physical health is not the only important factor that one should take care. This includes the emotional and mental health, too.

Our mind and body are linked. An individual who improves his physical health also experience positive changes on his mental and emotional well-being. Good nutrition, adequate sleep and rest, exercise, and good personal hygiene can bring positive effects to the mind, body and spirit.

Good mental health is not just the absence of mental disorders. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is much more than being free from depression, anxiety, or other physiological issues. The presence of positive characteristics is also attributed to mental and emotional health. Not feeling bad is not the same as feeling good. Although a person may not

have negative feelings, he still needs to do things that will make him feel positive in order to achieve mental and emotional health.

Having a sense of contentment is one sign of being emotionaly healthy person. One should be able to laugh and have fun, deal with stress, and have an open mind to learn and adapt new things. As humans, we are bound to have social interactions whether he likes it or not; everyone needs a positive relationship with others as well as positive connections as we were not created to survive and thrive in isolation.

An individual is also considered emotionally healthy if he can balance work and play, build and maintain fulfilling relationships, and has self-confidence and high self-esteem. Balancing your work, family life and personal life

can lead to a healthier health as well as your emotional and mental well-being. Self-confidence is able to say “I can” to any situation or challenges in life. And high self-esteem is the feeling that one deserves an individual identity. These human traits are essential during the early stages of life in which the parents play an important role. A parent should be able to teach these important human traits to a child as early as possible.

Mental health is enhanced by a strong sense of self-worth and self-efficacy. Being self-worth means that a person is able to say positive thoughts such as “I am competent” and “I am worthy”. These are emotions that lead to triumph and success in life.

In a philosophical sense, to realize a person’s mental health, one should say to oneself:

If it is to be, it is up to me to do it. If I choice to try, I’ll enjoy my success, learn from my failure, and always continue to grow in the process of becoming a unique individual, interdependent with others in meaningful social networks.
